|
There are many potential health problems in island community people. The study of island people’s health is almost rare during recent years. The purpose of this study was to assess the health status, health behavior, and need assessment of health-care service in island residents in the one of the provincial government which is located off the middle-western seashore from mainland Korea, face to face household interview survey through randomized sampling method was executed from 2002, April to 2002, May. The major findings were as following; 1. Strengthen public health activity should be needed due to higher dependence on public health facilities in island residents. 2. Systematic and continuous execution of periodic health examination should be needed due to higher request on health examination, particularly major cancer screening. 3. Service diversification of community health practioner post may be needed and dental service, health examination, and various kind of health education programme should be strengthen. 4. Medical utilization rate, satisfaction, and service need were high about the service of the hospitals ship in island residents. Health manpower, facilities, and equipment should be reinforced, particularly oriental medical services.
